Onions

Not the most clever of titles but I'm at a loss. This was done with a limited palette of six colors plus white.

  1. Hi Gaye! Why are you painting with the limited palette? Is it an exercise in a group you're in? The paintings you're doing are just beautiful, so that may be reason enough!

  2. Hello Susan! Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog!
To answer your question, I was taught to paint with a fairly limited palette, though not as limited as I am experimenting with now. It's not a group exercise, it is just something I am very interested in. I have always been very impressed with what the old masters accomplished with so few colors. Also, the fewer colors, the more cohesive and harmonious a painting is, at least in my experience. Is that more than you ever really wanted to know?
Hope all is going well in your new studio! I'm so happy for you!

  6. Hi Gaye!
Wonderful oils - beautiful color and strokes! I see what you mean about the street sweeper. What's interesting is not only his attitude and contemplation, but your use of complementary colors. Wow! -Adele
